Upcoming catalystThe event that could move the share price.
Tesla holds a Semi rollout event at its new dedicated truck factory in Sparks, Nevada, on Thursday 24 September 2026. The invitation-only event marks the opening of the factory, with tours of the production line and ride-alongs in the refreshed Semi, and is aimed mainly at logistics and fleet customers. Tesla will livestream it on X at 6pm Pacific, which is 01:00 UTC on 25 September 2026.
Main stock affectedThe company the event affects most directly.
Tesla, Inc., Nasdaq ticker TSLA.
Current priceWhere the shares traded when this write-up was made, and when that was.
$378.90 as of 22 Sept 2026, 20:00 UTC, the regular-session close.
Expected stock reactionWhich way we expect the share price to go after the event. Positive means it rises, Negative means it falls, Mixed means it could go either way.
Mixed, and small. Positive if Tesla gives a production rate, a price and named fleet orders, because that turns the Semi from a promise into a revenue line. Negative if the event is a factory tour with no numbers, because the last Tesla product event, the Cybercab launch on 3 September, was followed by a fall of 5.92% the next day.
Action before the eventWhat we suggest you do before the event. Buy, Watch or Avoid.
Watch. The Semi is a small business today, the event is aimed at fleet buyers rather than investors, and the larger Tesla catalysts are a week away: the Roadster reveal on the evening of 1 October and the third-quarter delivery count, which probably lands on 2 October. Nothing about a factory opening needs to be traded before it happens.
Why the stock is affectedThe link between the event and this company.
Tesla unveiled the Semi in 2017. Nine years later it has sold only a few hundred in total, and the event marks the start of what Tesla calls high-volume production, which began in April 2026. The factory is designed to build up to 50,000 trucks a year. At a price of about $350,000 including charging, that capacity would be worth about $17.5 billion of revenue a year, against Tesla's trailing $103.62 billion. That is a ceiling years away, but it is the first new Tesla vehicle line in a long time with a factory already built for it.
Catalyst confidenceHow sure we are that the event happens as described. Scored out of 100. Higher means more sure.
The event is confirmed with a date, a venue, invitations, a start time and a livestream, and it is tied to a factory Tesla has already built. Confidence that it happens at 6pm Pacific on 24 September, 01:00 UTC on 25 September: 95%.
Stock-reaction confidenceHow sure we are that the stock reacts the way we expect. Scored out of 100. Higher means more sure.
Low. The event is aimed at fleet customers, and the stock's next big tests come a week later. Tesla is now livestreaming it, so the market will see what is said as it happens. Confidence in the reaction: 40%.
When the market will reactThe moment the price is likely to move, such as at the announcement or at the next market open.
The event starts at 01:00 UTC on 25 September 2026, which is 6pm Pacific on 24 September, after the US close. The first reaction comes in thin after-hours trading, and the first liquid reaction is the regular session on 25 September. Because it is livestreamed, the news arrives all at once rather than through attendees' posts.
Effect on the businessWhat the event changes for the company itself, such as its sales, costs or profit.
Small now, potentially meaningful later. A few hundred cumulative sales is a rounding error for Tesla. The logistics company Einride recently ordered 500 units, which on its own roughly triples Tesla's lifetime Semi sales. The Semi costs about $350,000 including charging, against roughly $165,000 for a diesel truck, so its sale depends on fuel and maintenance savings, and, in the longer run, on autonomous driving, which Tesla says is coming to the Semi.
Market expectations and forecastWhat investors already expect from this event, and the numbers being forecast.
Expectations are low, which is unusual for a Tesla event. Analysts once put the market for electric heavy trucks at more than $100 billion a year, but after nine years of delay few models give the Semi much value. The event is billed around production innovations, fleet economics, autonomy for the Semi and global availability. My forecast is a polished factory opening with a production target, a list of fleet customers and a Full Self-Driving roadmap for the Semi, but no firm revenue figures. That is a small positive for the business and a small event for the stock.
How much is already priced inHow much of the expected outcome the share price already reflects before the event happens.
Low for the Semi, high for Tesla's product month. The stock has risen 4.42% in the last month into a run of events and sits 24.04% below its 52-week high. The Semi itself carries very little of the valuation, so any hard number is close to pure upside. The risk is that the market treats a quiet factory opening the way it treated the Cybercab launch.
Expected price move and durationHow far the share price may move because of this event, and how long that move may last.
Options-Implied Move I cannot confirm a figure for this event. The weekly options covering 24 September also cover the run-up to the Roadster reveal, so no price can be assigned to the Semi alone. Historical Event Analysis Measured from Polygon's daily bars, on the first full session after each product event. We, Robot, the robotaxi reveal on 10 October 2024: the shares fell 8.78% on 11 October 2024, from $238.77 to $217.80. Cybercab launch in Austin on 3 September 2026: the shares fell 5.92% on 4 September, from $376.37 to $354.08. The original Semi unveiling in 2017 and first deliveries in 2022 fall outside the two years of data available to this card. Historical Average Move Minus 7.35%, the average of the two. Both were robotaxi events carrying far more of the valuation than a truck does, so this average overstates what a Semi event is likely to do. It is the only measured evidence, and it points the same way twice. Our Expected Move Plus 1% to plus 3% if Tesla gives a production rate, a price and named fleet orders. Minus 1% to minus 3% if the event is a factory tour with no numbers. Both sides are far smaller than the 7.35% average, because the Semi matters far less to the valuation than the robotaxi did, and both sit inside the 3.46% average daily range of the stock. Impact Strength Low. A truck factory opening aimed at fleet buyers is a small event for a stock valued on autonomy. Estimated Duration Intraday to 1 trading day. The Roadster reveal on 1 October and the delivery count on 2 October will set the direction for the following week. None of these three percentages is the same claim. The options figure would be what the market charges, the historical figure is what the last two product events did, and the expected move is my own conclusion.
What else lands that dayOther news and events on the same day that could push the price around, and whether they help this trade, bury it, or work against it.
The event starts after the US close, so the reaction trades in the session on 25 September 2026. That day carries advance durable goods orders at 12:30 UTC and the final Michigan consumer survey at 14:00 UTC, both routine, and neither has a read-through to trucks. Costco reports after the close on 24 September, before the event starts, and the Federal Reserve has already decided this month. Net effect: the move is about Tesla, and it is small enough that the broader market could outweigh it.
Result needed for a big moveWhat the outcome has to be for the stock to move a lot instead of a little.
Numbers. A production target for 2027, a price, and named orders from large fleets would give analysts something to model for the first time. Any statement that Semi production is ahead of plan would also help the credibility of every other Tesla timeline, a week before the Roadster reveal.
Possible outcomesThe main ways the event could turn out, with the expected stock reaction for each one.
Positive outcome. A dated production target, a price and named fleet orders. Expected stock reaction: a rise of 1% to 3%. Neutral outcome. A good factory tour and demonstration rides, no new numbers. Expected stock reaction: a move under 1% in either direction. This is the most likely outcome. Negative outcome. Silence on volumes, or a delay to the production ramp. Expected stock reaction: a fall of 1% to 3%.
Other affected stocksOther companies that could move on the same news, such as suppliers and competitors.
PACCAR is the US-listed incumbent heavy-truck maker and the natural comparison. Cummins supplies diesel and alternative powertrains to the rest of the industry. Rivian, which builds electric delivery vans for Amazon, trades on electric commercial vehicle sentiment.
What the market may be missingSomething we think investors have overlooked or read wrong.
The Semi is the first test of whether Tesla can scale a new vehicle on time, and it comes a week before the Roadster reveal. Nine years from unveiling to high-volume production is a long delay, and the market has learned to discount every Tesla timeline. A factory that is built, running and producing at a stated rate is the kind of evidence the market has been asking for. If the Semi event shows that, it strengthens the case that the Roadster and the Cybercab timelines are real. If it does not, it weakens it just before the Roadster is judged.
Main risksWhat could go wrong, and what would prove this call wrong.
The first risk is disclosure: the livestream shows the event, but a factory tour with no production rate, price or orders would still give the market nothing to price. The second is demand. At about $350,000 including charging against about $165,000 for a diesel truck, adoption depends on fleets believing in the running-cost savings. The third is the calendar. The Roadster reveal and the delivery count are a week away and matter more, so any gain from the Semi may be given back before them.
Other factorsAnything else worth knowing that the sections above do not cover.
Tesla held $43.52 billion of cash and investments at the end of June against $16.08 billion of debt. Capital spending rose to $5.8 billion in the second quarter, and the Semi factory is part of that bill.
Trend over 6 to 12 monthsWhich way the share price has been heading over the past year, and how far it has travelled.
Down over twelve months, flat over six. The shares are down 11.07% over the last 52 weeks, 0.51% over six months and 0.71% over three months, and up 4.42% over the last month. The 52-week range runs from $297.38 on 29 July 2026 to $498.83 on 22 December 2025, and the 22 September close sits 40.5% of the way up it, 24.04% below the high and 27.41% above the low.
Recent price actionWhat the shares have done over the last few weeks and sessions, and on what kind of volume.
The stock rose 3.03% on 21 September and added about 1% on 22 September, trading between $372.88 and $380.42. That takes it above the $376.37 close of 3 September, the day of the Cybercab launch, which had capped it for most of the month.
Market structureThe shape of the chart. Rising highs and rising lows mean an uptrend, falling ones mean a downtrend, and neither means the price is stuck in a range.
Higher lows since the July low, with the September lows at $354.08 on 4 September and $356.58 on 15 September. The stock is now testing the top of its September range.
Support and resistance zonesPrice areas where buyers have stepped in before, and price areas where sellers have. They often slow the price down when it gets there again.
Resistance is $384.04, the high of 3 September, then the 200-day average at $396.72. Support is $376.37, the 3 September close, then $354.08 to $356.58, the September lows, then the 50-day average at $349.28.
50-day and 200-day moving averagesThe average closing price over the last 50 days and the last 200 days. Where the price sits against them shows whether the recent trend is strong or fading.
A moving average is the average closing price over that many trading days, drawn as a line so the trend is visible without reading every session. The 50-day average is $349.28 and the 200-day is $396.72. The 22 September close was 8.48% above the 50-day and 4.49% below the 200-day, and the 50-day sits $47.44 below the 200-day. That is a stock recovering inside a longer downtrend.
Relative strengthHow this stock has performed against the wider market and against its own sector over the same period.
Against the Nasdaq 100 tracking fund Tesla is slightly behind over one month, 4.42% against 4.77%, and well behind over longer windows: by 5.45 percentage points over three months, 27.63 over six months and 35.78 over twelve months.
Volume trendHow many shares are changing hands lately compared with normal. Heavy volume behind a move means more traders agree with it.
Steady. The 20-day average is 38,805,344 shares against a 50-day average of 38,165,567, about 1.7% higher.
VolatilityHow much the share price swings day to day right now, compared with how much it usually swings.
The 14-day average true range is $13.13, or 3.46% of the price, and the average daily high-to-low range over 20 sessions is $11.11, or 2.93%. Realised volatility is 42.04% over 14 days and 52.94% over 50 days, annualised. A normal day moves more than the expected reaction to this event.
Long-Term Technical ViewThe wider chart over years. The big trend, the major price levels and how much the stock swings.
The long-term support is the July 2026 low at $297.38 and the long-term resistance is the December 2025 high at $498.83.
Technical biasWhat the chart alone suggests, ignoring the news. Rated Bullish, Neutral or Bearish.
Neutral. The price is above the 50-day average with rising lows, which is the bullish half. It is below the 200-day, with the 50-day below the 200-day, which is the bearish half. This neutral chart matches the mixed call. The event is unlikely to settle the chart either way; the Roadster reveal and the delivery count are more likely to.
What would invalidate this biasThe price level or chart change that would prove the technical read wrong.
A daily close above $384.04 would turn it bullish. A daily close below $354.08 would turn it bearish.

Stock OverviewThe basic numbers. Price, size of the company, sector, the past year of highs and lows, trading volume and the next earnings date.
Market value is approximately $1.50 trillion on 3.95 billion shares. Tesla operates in the consumer discretionary sector and the automaker industry, with a growing energy storage business. Its 52-week range is $297.38 to $498.83. Recent average daily volume is about 38.8 million shares. The Semi event is on 24 September, the Roadster reveal on the evening of 1 October and third-quarter earnings on 28 October.
What the company doesThe business in plain words. What it sells, who buys it, and how the money reaches the company.
Tesla designs, builds and sells electric vehicles and battery storage, runs a paid robotaxi service in Austin, and is developing the Cybercab, the Semi and the Optimus humanoid robot.
Revenue BreakdownWhere the money comes from, split by product, by part of the business and by country.
Second-quarter 2026 revenue was $28.2 billion: automotive $20.5 billion, energy $3.1 billion and services and other $4.6 billion. Trailing twelve-month revenue is $103.62 billion. The Semi is not reported separately and is a very small part of automotive revenue.
Company GrowthHow sales, profit, earnings per share and spare cash have changed over the last few years.
Revenue was $96.77 billion in 2023, $97.69 billion in 2024 and $94.83 billion in 2025, a compound change of about minus 1.0% a year, before recovering to $103.62 billion on a trailing basis. Company growth is Low.
Earnings PerformanceThe latest results, whether they beat or missed what the market expected, and what the company says comes next.
Second-quarter revenue beat expectations, but adjusted earnings of $0.33 a share missed the $0.49 forecast, and the operating margin fell to 1.4% as spending on AI and new factories rose.
Financial HealthCash, debt, cash flow and profit margins, and whether the company keeps issuing new shares. Rated Strong, Average or Weak.
Cash and investments of $43.52 billion against $16.08 billion of debt. Free cash flow was negative $1.1 billion in the second quarter because of capital spending. Financial health is Strong.
ValuationWhat you pay today for what the company earns, next to its rivals and its own past. Rated Cheap, Fair or Expensive.
The trailing price to earnings ratio is about 351 on trailing earnings of $1.08 a share. On every measure of current profit Tesla is Expensive; the valuation is a bet on autonomy and robots.
ShareholdersWho owns the company. Big funds, company insiders, and whether ownership sits with only a few holders.
Institutions own about 43.15% of the shares and insiders about 28.53%, mostly Elon Musk. Short interest is 2.63% of the float.
Insider ActivityWhether the people running the company have been buying or selling their own shares lately.
I cannot confirm any specific open-market insider transaction in the period covered by this card, so I am not quoting one.
Dividends and BuybacksCash paid out to shareholders, whether that payment looks safe, and whether the company is buying back its own shares.
Tesla pays no dividend and does not run a meaningful buyback.
Competitive PositionWho the company competes with, how much of the market it holds, and what it has that rivals do not.
In heavy trucks the Semi competes with Daimler Truck, Volvo and PACCAR, all of which sell electric models in small numbers, and with diesel, which still dominates. Tesla's advantage is its battery cost and charging network. Its weakness in trucks is that it has no dealer and service network for fleets of the kind the incumbents have built over decades.
Future OutlookWhat sales and profit are expected to do next, and what management has promised.
My view is neutral on the company. New products are finally reaching customers, but deliveries are falling again, margins are thin and profit has fallen for three years.
Other Upcoming Company CatalystsOther events ahead that could move the share price, such as results, launches or approvals, apart from the catalyst this report is built on.
The Roadster reveal on the evening of 1 October, the third-quarter delivery count in early October and third-quarter earnings on 28 October.
Long-Term Company RisksWhat could weaken the business over the coming years, rather than around this one event.
The valuation depends on autonomy and robotics arriving close to Musk's timelines; the core car business is shrinking in its largest markets; and the company is closely tied to one chief executive.
Traderavel VerdictOur straight answer on the company after everything above, not on the trade. Quality, growth, price, risk and the long-term view.
Tesla is a strong balance sheet attached to a shrinking car business and a set of large bets on autonomy and robots. Growth is low, financial health is strong and the valuation is extreme on current profit. The Semi event is a small, industrial event on a stock waiting for bigger ones. The card suits investors who want evidence that Tesla can scale a new product on schedule before the Roadster reveal. It does not suit anyone expecting a truck factory to move a $1.5 trillion stock by more than an ordinary day.
