What the statuses mean

Two things to know before you read a pick.

  • QualifiesStrong business, durable growth, financial resilience and reasonable valuation.
  • WatchlistPromising company, but price, uncertainty or missing evidence means we wait.
  • Does Not QualifyBusiness weaknesses or insufficient evidence prevent selection.

The price is a separate question

The status above is about the business. Whether today’s price is worth paying is judged separately, so a great company can be a Watchlist because it is expensive, and a cheap one can be a Watchlist because the business has stalled.

  • PriceUndervalued
  • PriceFairly valued
  • PriceExpensive

Each pick shows both, with the estimated fair value it was measured against.

Long-term US stocks worth owning

Each pick is a company researched over about five years of filings, with one of three conclusions. Qualifies: strong business, durable growth, financial resilience and reasonable valuation. Watchlist: promising company, but price, uncertainty or missing evidence means we wait. Open a pick for the case, the figures behind it and what would change our view.
